Bio

Sam Phalen is a West Virginia native and a member of Marshall University Theatre’s class of 2025. They’ve been in the theatre game since 2018 as an actor, writer, stagehand, assistant director, props master… Acting is their favorite part of the arts, but as long as they’re in the room where it happens, they’ll happily do it. Their favorite roles include Leaf Coneybear in The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, Kate Jerome in Brighton Beach Memoirs, and Ousier Boudreaux in Steel Magnolias.

When they’re not working at the Alban Arts Center as a stagehand or Arts Academy teacher, Sam works at developing a Charleston-based puppetry company, Wonky Puppetry. Inspired by Jim Henson and Adam Kreutinger, they write, act, and build puppets under the moniker, hoping to spark creativity in anyone willing to pick up a pen.
